In 2009, Carol Zernial became Vice President of Community
Relations for WellMed Medical Management. The company hired her due to
her extensive experience as an advocate for elderly persons and an
organizer of disease prevention and health promotion campaigns for
seniors. In her current position, she aids the Texas-based company’s
local and national outreach endeavors. Moreover, Carol Zernial performs
as Executive Director of WellMed Charitable Foundation, a non-profit
partner organization that assists seniors and their caregivers.
joining WellMed Medical Management, Carol Zernial spent several years
with the Bexar Area Agency on Aging. At the division of the Alamo Area
Council of Governments, she oversaw a nearly $6 million department
responsible for 15,000 individuals. Under her guidance, the Agency
received $1.6 million in grants that enabled it to conduct programs in
fall prevention, mobility management, and chronic disease
self-management, as well as to develop the Aging and Disability Resource
Center and the Alamo Service Connection.
Earlier in her career,
Ms. Zernial held roles with United Way of Tarrant County's Area Agency
on Aging, Elderco., and the American Association of Homes and Services
for the Aging. Additionally, she participated in the creation of the The
Service Coordinator Training Manual. As a student, she earned a
Master's degree in Social Gerontology and Business Administration from
the University of the Incarnate Word.
Today, Ms. Zernial
supplements her duties at WellMed Medical Management with other
achievements. The producer and host of the Caregiver SOS radio show, she
also contributes her insights to the Boards of Directors for the Aging
Texas Well Advisory Committee and the National Council on Aging. In
2008, Carol Zernial was honored for her accomplishments with the Texas
Outstanding Professional in Aging Award.
